June 2007 - The Japan-Honduras Friendship Soccer  Tournament

Greeting From The Children of Intibuca.

Thank you so much for your wonderful visit and support for the children here in Intibuca. Your participation this project has brought much happiness to many people.  Thank you so much for your good work planting trees in Japan as well as your work in planting trees here in Intibuca.

The children truly enjoyed planting with you.  It was do wonderful to see women coming here to volunteer.  The children truly responded to your warmth and caring.  You are an example of caring and sharing women for women from many parts of the world to emulate. It was a joy to see you jump right in and get your hands dirty.  Here women of your educational level often do not want to get their hands dirty.   Thank you for taking the time from your daily life to come to Honduras.

I say volunteers are on the right side of the bell curve on the side of altruism. I know I volunteer because I feel that I have  been given many gifts, a chance for an education that others have not received.  I have had many good relationships that others may not have had.  I feel that because I was given so much it now my turn to give to others.  Simply because it is the right thing to do.  I believe that most volunteers feel that way.  A true volunteer gives because there is something inside him or her that wants to get out that wants to give to others

For that reason I was very happy for your visit to Intibuca.  I hope that this is the beginning of a  wonderful friendship between the people of Intibuca and the people of Hokkaido.  I have asked Mr. Sakai to help me in the creation of the Japan Honduras Sports Friendship Society.   I would like to invite you to join with me in this project to develop student exchanges and cross cultural visits between Japan and Honduras, especially between Hokkaido, Sapporo and the people of Intibuca.

The teachers in the school were very happy with the trees and are very proud of them.  They have cleaned around the trees and chopped the grass.  Your good work has been an inspiration to them.  The children proudly showed me the trees today.  It was a wonderful feeling to know that I was a part of such a wonderful project.

It is our hope that you will continue to reach out to these wonderful children who are so in need. These indigenous children have a difficult future ahead of them. So that any help that can be given to them is wonderful.  Thank you so much.

Yours sincerely,

Dra. Carol Cross
