Soccer Youth In The USA Are Privileged

Soccer players in the USA are privileged youth.  Every day your Soccer Moms dote on you, taking you to soccer practice to soccer games and activities.  You and all of your teams can share the soccer gear you have outgrown or no longer need with those who do not have any soccer gear.  What we throw away at the end of the soccer season can enable poor youth to play the game of soccer.

How Does Soccer For Life Help Youth Play Soccer

Soccer for Life is an Arizona 501(c) 3 dedicated to bringing soccer to Youth At Risk in  Central America. While we do a summer camp for two months in summer, most of our efforts and resources go for free soccer clinics and Donation concursos in Honduras. In addition we sponsor girls and womens teams in Honduras by providing uniforms, balls and cleats.  We are also being asked to develop Soccer Gear Donation programs in many countries.

Your Old Soccer Gear Can Be Special To Children In Honduras

When you are developing a program like Soccer For Life on a shoestring budget, which depends on caring and concerned people for these neglected children, it is easy to get disheartened. That’s why your support has been a ray of light. It is so good to find someone who share that same vision. Thank you so very much for caring and for your support.

Special Thanks to Soccer Express of Minnesota For Their Donation of Soccer Boots, T-shirts, Jerseys, Shorts and Training Clothes

Donating Used Soccer Gear Is Good For Our Soccer Youth

Getting involved with this donation program is important for youth in the USA who have the privilege of the best Soccer Moms and Soccer Dads in the world.  Because they get so much time, energy and resources given to them, they need to learn that there is more to life than just receiving.  To be happy, everyone needs four things

bullet

Community - to belong to a caring group

bullet

Structure to know what to do to succeed

bullet

Meaning - to believe that what you are doing is worth doing

bullet

A Superordinate Goal - to share what you have with others outside your family or friends

The Importance To Your Children Of The Youth Soccer Leader Program

The Youth Soccer Leader Program is designed to give soccer youth an opportunity to develop a superordinate goal at the same time they learn the most important form of leadership.  Through this program, we are teaching Leadership by Sharing or "Expanding Permitteds Leadership". Expanding Permitted Leaders are in great demand.  Leaders who expand the permitteds (abilities of others to experience activities, gain higher self esteem, have more success and happiness) will be vital to the corporate world, to government and to our live in an ever more populated and diverse world.

Soccer Youth can Learn The Skills Of Leadership By Collecting and Sharing Soccer Gear

Unless we expand the permitteds of all of us, we will continue to have terrorism, wars and a more and more dangerous world.  Children are the key to changing that future.  And soccer youth can begin the process, just by taking leadership in their family, on their team, in their church, in their community.  And all they have to do is to begin collecting used soccer gear and donating them to children who do not have the means to play.  By donating these unneeded items, they are "Expanding the Permitteds" of these poor children by allowing them to play soccer.

Soccer Is The Most Important Game In The World

Soccer is the most important game in the world. More people play soccer than any other sport.  Today, there were probably 200,000,000 playing a refereed game of soccer.  When I see players at the world class level, I am filled with the energy of Spirit. I see the movements of elite players along the cancha as a poetic experience, a dance of exquisite celebration of the capabilities of the human body to move with complete abandon and yet total control. They give much joy to many of your countrymen and indeed all of us. They are truly a gift of life.

Chances are some time in the past of great players someone came along and told them that there was the spark of greatness in them. And they, through effort, hard work, and training, have fanned that spark into the World Class soccer athlete they are today.

I am writing today to ask you to pass along that spark that was given to these soccer greats. I would like to share a little more with you about how we are developing Soccer for Life. in Arizona. It is a focal point for developing a  way to reach out to children who are hurting by giving them access to organized, safe soccer play.

Many Children Cannot Afford To Play Soccer

Soccer teaches us so much.  We learn to train even when it hurts.  We learn to roll with the punches when the refs make bad calls.  We learn to forgive our teammates who make us lose by their mistakes.  We learn to work as a team.  We experience the support of a caring coach so we learn nurturing skills.  And so much more.  It is unfortunate that so many children who could benefit from the team building, the sense of worldwide community, the peace making potential of this beautiful game simply cannot afford to play it.

I would like to ask you if you would be willing to contribute to Soccer for Life. I am not always asking for money, although we need money for everything from balls, to shin guards, uniforms, and cleats. I am asking for things you no longer need in your program. Would you send us the used soccer gear, balls, jerseys, shorts, socks, cleats, shin guards, nets, sports bags which will be discarded by your league or teams?

I believe that within our Hemisphere there are children who have not had a chance to play who might be another Pele or Maradona. We are seeking to develop these young people in our Hemisphere.

Will You Help Us Provide These Children A Chance to Play The Beautiful Game

This summer we will be developing a program for very poor children  in Honduras. Poor Honduran children needs these boots.  With your soccer boots, we can support Soccer for Life's  and the Honduran Youth Soccer Program and bring soccer to the poor children in the mountains.

The Honduras Youth Soccer Program  are recreational soccer development initiatives which provides sport opportunities to homeless and poor youth in Honduras.  The program is based on a set of ideals and purposes developed by Dr. Carol Cross, founder of Soccer for Life and initiator of the program.

The Honduras Youth Soccer Project

The Honduras Youth Soccer Project grew out of Soccer For Life's Free Clinics in Arizona.  In addition, after Hurricane Mitch struck,  Dr. Cross traveled to Honduras with Links of Compassion, a non profit which provided seeds and support to poor women impacted by Hurricane Mitch.  Here she saw many children who had no toys.  Here are two children playing with two sticks they were able to salvage from the fuelwood bins.  If the family needs it for firewood, they will lose even these makeshift toys.  These youth cannot afford the equipment needed to participate in organized sports - so Soccer For Life (with your support)  provides it for them.

Thank You For Giving Your Time To Learn About The Needs Of Poor Children

These young people would be happy to know that someone cares enough to share these soccer supplies. Thank you for taking a little time to listen to the story of these upcoming Soccer Masters, and, with your encouragement, we hope that is what they will be.

Good luck this season. We teach our kids that every time you enter the field you are practicing for life, and so we need your peak performance. Your caring has already been an inspiration to me. You may be sure they will share their appreciation with your group. These are children who know how to be grateful for help. Indeed when they look at the recreational teams, competitive teams, the plethora of tournaments children from well to do environments enjoy, these children look upon the lives of soccer youth teams like your own with awe.

The children we work with will be happy just to get a chance to play, to have a caring adult volunteer coach spend a few hours with them. Some of them are totally without caring or supportive adults in their lives. Your contributions could change their lives for good.

I would like to invite you, if you’d like, to become a member of Soccer for Life, make a donation, or sit on the Advisory Board. Please let me know. Thank you very much for caring.

Yours sincerely,

Dr. Carol Cross, Director
